Reaper - Babylon killed the music
„Was ein Album!!“, mit „Babylon killed the music“ präsentiert Vasi Vallis (Frozen Plasma, NamNamBulu, Future lied to us) aka „Reaper“ nach „Hell starts with an H“ das zweite komplette Studioalbum. Selten konnte ein Album mit soviel unterschiedlichen Stilen so eindrucksvoll überzeugen. So facettenreich wie Babylon, der Sündenfall und die unzähligen daraus resultierenden Sprachen so abwechslungsreich ist „Babylon killed the music“. Hier treffen die 90er auf die 80er, techno auf New Beat, Industrial auf EBM und Electro auf verzerrte „harsh electronic beats“. Gleich mit dem Opener „Cracking Skull“ gibt es den „typischen“ Dampfhammer-Sound „auf die Ohren“, kompromisslos und mit eindringlicher Melodie, die sich in deinem Gehörgang festsetzt! Auch „The Sound of IDS“ schlägt in die selbe, extrem clubtaugliche Kerbe, bevor mit „Sledge Hammer“ ein eher „trancing“ anmutender Song die Brücke zu „Farewell“ und zum Ende der 80er New Beat Sound schlägt der stellenweise ein Wenig an „KLF“ zu besten Zeiten erinnert. „We are Reaper“ definiert dann das Genre „Mid-Tempo“ neu und marschiert mit seinen Beats und den eindringlichen Sprachsamples quer durch dein Großhirn! Mit „Sechzehn Punkte Plan“ geht es dann zurück in den Club bevor „Reaper“ mit „Neophyte“ fast Electroclash-mässig „um die Ecke kommen“. „Footprint“ ist dann eine echte Überraschung auf „Babylon killed the music“ da es sehr chillig, fast ambient-artig den Hörer in seinen Bann zieht. Im nächsten Song tötet Aladin dann „JFK“ und tut dies im 90er retro Techno/Trance Style. „Divide the sea“ ist dann gleich die nächste Überraschung, die man so auf einem Reaper Album sicher kaum erwarten würde. Der Song mit seinen female Chants erinnert an Delerium oder gar Enigma und verzaubert durch seine warme Melodieführung. Mit „Silver Love“, stilistisch im „Synthwave“ angesiedelt, rundet als letzter Song das Album ab, der sicher auch auf das nächste Frozen Plasma, Assemblage 23 oder VNV Nation Album gepasst hätte. Ein Album voller Kurzweil, Clubhits, starken Melodien und grossartigen Ideen!

After the debut album „Hell starts with an H“ „Reaper“ return with a true masterpiece as colorful as the former Babylon city, the home of man, varied and complex, powerful and melancholic! The album is where 80s and 90s melt and the 2000 kicks in. Techno meets New Beat, Industrial meets TBM, 90s meets synth wave colored with 80s influences. As strange as all this sounds as great is the bandwidth of this musical journey! „Cracking skull“ is the „typical“ „Reaper“ sound followed by „The sound of IDS“ which is another TBM floorfiller! Track three, „Sledge Hammer“ comes in more poppy a bit trance like building a bridge to „Farewell“, an late 80s influenced New Beat song in the vein of „KLF“. „We are Reaper“ defines the mid tempo section with marching beats and massive vocal samples before the album turns back to it’s club style with „Neophyte“. „Footprint“ is another musical surprise mostly ambient, chill out style but powerful in it’s sounds and structure. „Aladin killed JFK“ is a true retro 90s Trance/Techno track as energetic as most of the album! „Divide the sea“ comes as the next true surprise as charming as „Delerium" or even „Enigma" when the album closes with „Silver Love“ which could surely also be found on one of the next album releases by Frozen Plasma, Assemblage 23 or VNV Nation, a true synth wave masterpiece. An Album full of diversion, club hits, strong melodies and great ideas!
